Unearth The Benefits Of Being A Work-at-home Mom
Posted on May 28th, 2009. Filed under: Business and Investing.Being a work at home mom or a WAHM is a fantastic job. You can stay at home with your kids all day so there are no daycare costs. You can in no way be late for work. If you want to you can always hang out in your PJ’s all day so long as you still work. You can be an entrepreneur and run your own business where your potential income is unrestricted! And you can live in a untidy house and worry about getting the laundry finished just like every other mother in the world.
Moms are the Chief Executive Officers of the entire household. If a mom works at home or if she goes off to a job outside the home, it seems that her main job is to make sure that the family runs efficiently. Work at home moms have to be even more disciplined since she needs to work and make a living rather than stop and clean up the mess of the house, do the laundry and scrub the toilets. It may just take a minute but she is supposed to be working!
Generally households hold Mom responsible for the bulk of the cleaning the kitchen and washing the dishes, doing the laundry and scrubbing the toilets, also the majority of the grocery shopping and meal planning and attending the PTA meetings. Dad’s help, they actually do but for some reason it seems to fall on Mom’s shoulders more.
Sure, most of that is mom’s fault. Most mom’s desire to have it all, a great business or career, plenty of money in the bank, well behaved and beautiful children and a spotless home to boot. In addition we also want plenty of free time to workout and get in shape, read books, surf the Internet and take pleasure in family time. Can a WAHM have it all?
The reality is that there are only so many hours in a day and when you are trying to do it all by yourself something has to give. Behind every successful woman is a giant pile of dirty laundry because it is hard to get the laundry done when you are working on more important and pressing items.
However money notwithstanding and in a ideal world, moms could delegate out the chores that they struggle with and of course, one of the first things to hire out would be a housecleaner. There are people who love to clean and they are very good at it. Perchance Mom’s time is better spent doing something else and the person who loves to clean can stop by and earn a living by cleaning the house.
Similar thing with laundry, the yard work and everything else that doesn’t get done since Mom is working. It is even possible to start having the groceries delivered. Mom’s time is better spent working or doing something else!
But even with all of the inherent difficulties of working at home, keeping the house clean and getting the laundry done being a WAHM is a great gig. It works for me. However, my kitchen is still a mess and there is a large pile of soiled clothes in the laundry room. Better strive to hire that maid quickly!
